Deceased was born in Tennessee in 1843, and leaves a wife and two sons. (25 Jan 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORY. On last Wednesday the death angel visited the home of C. B. Pruett and bore away the tired spirit of his father, John S. Pruett. Mr. Pruett was born in Tennessee, January 24th, 1854 (sic), and was called home January 17th, 1917, to enjoy a rest prepared for the children of God. He became a member of the Church of Christ in 1870, and through all the troubles and trials that encompassed him on the rugged pathway of life, and 'mid the many dangers and pitfalls that often lure away the followers of Christ, he bore them with Christian fortitude and though at times his failing health would have a tendency to try his faith, he still clung to that blessed hope that brightens the pathway and goes with us even through the valley of the shadow of death. He was married to Susan F. Carpenter, December 27th, 1871, and was the father of nine children, three dying in infancy. One son, John E. Pruett, died at Iowa Park, Texas, October 15th, 1899 at the age of 20 years. One daughter, Mrs. Clark Havenhill died near Elk City, Feb. 1st, 1912. Mr. Pruett had reached the time allotted to man to dwell upon this old earth. He had witnessed the various changes in time and seasons and for the last four or five years he had been gradually failing in health and was a pilgrim here awaiting the boatman that would carry him across to that happy shore, where there is no more death, heart-aches or sad goodbyes. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his loss, Mrs. S. C. Havenhill of Vinson, Okla., Mrs. E. H. Woolridge of Reed, Okla., and his two sons, C. B. and Eddie Pruett of Elk City, all of whom were with him when the end came except Mrs. Woolridge who was unable to come on account of sickness in her own home. Funeral services were held at the residence. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
