(13 Dec 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): FORMER ELK CITY PIONEER DIED IN COFFEYVILLE Word was received from Mrs. E. L. Collins of Coffeyville, Kansas, containing the message of the death of Christian J. Puettgen, former resident of Elk City, who died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Pauline Collins, Coffeyville, Kansas, on November 24, 1928. Mr. Puettgen had lived in Coffeyville for the last six years but came to Beckham county in pioneer days in the year 1891. He homesteaded on Timber Creek and for years he raised sheep and cattle. He left in 1915 and lived with his daughter, Mrs. Frank Welter of El Reno, Okla., for seven years. Mr. Puettgen was born in Aldorf, Prussia, eighty-two years ago. He enjoyed good health until within four months of his death which was caused by carcinoma of the stomach and liver. The interment was made in Fairview cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.
