MARIE RANDOLPH Elk City sustained a very great loss when the news went abroad announcing the death of Mrs. Marie Randolph who has been an honored citizen of this community for many years. Just a few days before, she fell and suffered injuries that in the course of a day or two developed complications which resulted in her death at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Herring on West Broadway. The whole city feels that it has suffered an irreparable loss in the going away of Mrs. Randolph yet in our more sober moments we feel thankful that we have been blessed with the influence of such a consecrated noble Christian life. Marie McAllister Adams was born December 1, 1845 in Bath Co., Ky. She was married to Robert William Randolph, February 9, 1868, at Millersburg, Mo. To this union four children were born: T. E. Randolph of Los Angeles, California, Annie Lyle Randolph who died at the age of eight years, J. M. Randolph and Mrs. Guy Herring both of Elk City. A sister Mrs. W. H. Winn lives in Elk City. Mrs. Randolph was converted at an early age and united with the Methodist Church to which she was faithful in her devotion to the end, which came April 19, 1926, aged 80 years, 4 months and 19 days. Mrs. Randolph was a woman of sterling character with a generous and sympathetic heart; first to see merit and last to censure faults. She was of a very energetic disposition, never satisfied unless she could find something to do for some member of the family or some of her friends. She enjoyed reading good literature and was a good Bible student and lived according to her interpretation of its teachings. Her gentle manner and sympathetic disposition endeared her to everyone who knew her. Her children loved her devotedly and she was given every care by them, especially by her only daughter, Mrs. Herring and Mr. Herring, with whom she made her home. She often expressed to wish during her illness, that she might live until son, T. E. Randolph of California, whom she had not seen in four years, arrived. But he was unable to reach here until after her death. The funeral services were held from the Broadway Methodist church on Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. E. C. Webb officiating and the body was laid to rest in the West Fairlawn cemetery. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
