(18 Jun 1903, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): W. L. Remhoff, who came to this city recently, departed this life Monday evening about 7:00 o'clock. Deceased had been in poor health for the past two or three years, being afflicted with bronchitis, and upon the advise of physicians at his former home - Earl Park, Ind. - he was induced to come to Oklahoma with the hopes that the change of climate would be beneficial to his health. He, with his family, arrived in Elk City May 20th, and immediately purchased property and became residents of our city. Since coming here his health had not improved as much as anticipated. Last Monday evening, feeling a little stronger than usual, he attempted to walk out of doors, but had not gone more than fifty feet from the house when he was attacked with heart failure and fell to the ground. Neighbors who saw him fall ran immediately to his assistance, but before he could be taken to the house death had forever closed his eyes. Deceased was born July 6, 1878, and died June 15, 1903, aged 24 years, 11 months and 9 days. He was married about four years ago to Miss Clara Harris of Earl Park, Ind. He was born at Gainesville, Texas, but has lived the most of his life near Earl Park, Ind., where his friends were many. He leaves a wife, a small baby, a sister and a host of warm friends to mourn his demise. The remains were taken to his old home in Indiana Tuesday evening, accompanied by his wife, child and sister. Since coming to Elk the condition of his health prevented him from making a very extensive acquaintance, but the heartfelt sympathy of the citizens of our city is cordially extended to the bereaved friends in their hour of affliction. Fred L. Beer, undertaker and embalmer of Weatherford was in Elk Tuesday preparing the remains of W. L. Remhoff, deceased, for shipment to Earl Park, Ind. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
