(14 Feb 1907, Roger Mills Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Passed Away. We attended the burial of one of our old confederate brothers and his son's infant, Sunday evening at the Elk City cemetery. Bro. Gwatkins, of the Baptist church, performed the ceremony at the grave, which was able and appropriate. Bro. Gwatkins is an able preacher, a good christian and what he preaches comes straight from the heart. The old soldiers are fast passing away. Our brother J. H. Rogers was a Georgian and belonged to the Eleventh Georgia Regiment. He was in Lee's army during the civil war. When the war was over he came home and made an honest citizen. He was a member of the Baptist church at his old home. Bro. Rogers has fulfilled his work on earth and his spirit is now in heaven, where there are no more wars or trouble. Peace to his ashes! We know not who will be the next to pass away. Are you ready? --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
