Ryan Died Here Early Wednesday Morning. C. Ryan, for a number of years a resident of Elk City, died at an early hour Wednesday morning at the home in the south part of the city after a brief illness from pneumonia. The remains were taken in charge by Grubitz & Son and prepared for burial. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at the hour of going to press, but the remains will probably be shipped to St. Louis, if not buried here. Mr. Ryan is survived by his widow and several children, who have the sympathy of many friends. ---Charles Ryan, who gained considerable newspaper notoriety in Beckham county through frequent prosecutions in the county court on charges of bootlegging, died last Tuesday morning at Elk City after an attack of pneumonia. (4 May 1916, Thursday, Elk City Leader, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Charles J. Ryan. The death of Charles J. Ryan, a well known resident of this city, occurred at his home April 19, after a brief illness from pneumonia. Funeral services were at the home, conducted by Dr. Boyce of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Ryan was born in Courtland County, New York, sixty-nine years ago. He had lived here for some time and had been engaged in selling pianos and organs and vehicles and also handled live stock. He was an active man, possessing a cheerful disposition, a kind husband, an indulgent father and a neighbor who was always ready to do a favor. He is survived by his wife and five children, Charley, Alice, Roy Frank and Bernice of this city. Mrs. Bernice Dorr and William Ryan of St. Louis, children by a former marriage, one brother, Lewis B. Ryan of New York and one sister, Carrie E. Schultz of Syracuse, New York. Both brother and sister were unable to attend the funeral on account of sickness.
