C. Searcy received telegram Wednesday morning that his sister, Miss Belle Searcy had died in Haley, Tennessee. On account of Mr. Searcy being ill himself, he was unable to attend the funeral as he would have done had his health permitted. (6 Feb 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Miss Bell Searcy This good woman, after a very brief illness, passed to her heavenly reward on the 30th day of December 1924, at the home of her sister, Mrs. W. F. Slater at Haley, Tenn. The funeral service was conducted by her former friend and pastor Rev. Mr. Keathly of Baxter, Tenn., assisted by the writer of this sketch, at her home, on the first day of the new year, 1925. A great company of friends and relatives were present to pay well-deserved tribute to this beautiful character and noble Christian woman. She was a "daughter of the manse," being one of the three children now living of the late Rev. Dan C. Searcy of sainted memory. Her brother, Emmett Searcy, has long been a resident of Elk City, Okla., where he has built up for himself an enviable reputation as a Christian citizen and successful business man. The only remaining member of the family is her devoted sister, with whom she lived, Mrs. Hattie Slater. Their relations to each other were most intimate and their attachment most beautiful. Miss Laura Bell Searcy had, from early girlhood, been a devoted follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, worshiping at Mt. Olivet. In former years she had been a public school teacher and many there are who rise to call her blessed because of the help and patient work she did towards their education. She was very faithful to our Community work and church at Haley, and was ever ready to minister to the general good, perform any duties, and assume any tasks that meant the betterment of the young life of that community.
