SIMPSON, ROY LEE
(The Elk City Daily News, Elk City, Beckham Co, Ok, 30? Oct 1981)
Services for Roy Lee Simpson, a former resident of Roger Mills County were
held at Pierce Brothers Chapel in North Hollywood, California, on
Thursday, October 29, 1981, with Rev. Edward J. Kriz of the Van Nuys
Baptist Church officiating.
Roy was born October 17, 1917 at Cheyenne and passed away October 24, 1981
in Arleta, California.  He lived with his family in the Rose Hill
Community until joining the U. S. Army in 1941.  Roy served in the
campaigns of Generals Mark Clark and George S. Patton from North Africa,
through Sicily and into Italy.  He advanced to the rank of Staff Sergeant
and earned several medals including two Bronze Battle Stars.
Roy was wounded in Italy and transferred to Phoenix, Arizona, where he was
assigned to a Military Police Unit to guard German prisoners.  After his
discharge Roy lived in Phoenix, Arizona, until 1976, when he moved to
Arleta, California.
After relocating in Calif., at the age of 60, Roy joined the United States
Fish and Wildlife Service and was assigned to Los Angeles International
Airport as a U. S. Fish and Wildlife Inspector.
National Geographic Magazine featured an article on Roy in March of this
year.  The article described Roy as "A quiet, bookish man, with an eye for
detail."
Roy leaves his sons, Robert and Ronald Simpson of Arleta, CA., their
mother, Ruth Simpson Marsala also of Arleta; one brother, Buck Simpson of
Haywood, CA,; and two sisters, Beulah McLean of Pampa, Texas and Fronia
Branson, of Long View, Texas.
In attendance at the services in California were Goldie Spitzer Slater,
Larry Montgomery, Mrs. Claude (Lita) Montgomery of Sacramento, CA.; Bill
and Ruth Montgomery of Los Cruces, New Mexico and Harold and Lee
(Montgomery) Mercer of Houston, Texas.
