The funeral services were held Wednesday, September 7, burial was made in Merritt Cemetery. Geo. R. Grubitz & Son in charge. (15 Sep 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): The many friends of Mrs. George Sitterding were shocked to learn of her death, which occurred at her home in Elk City September 6, 1927. Mrs. Sitterding, or Bertha, as she was so lovingly called by everyone who knew her, had been in poor health a long time, although few knew it for she was always ready to help other sick ones, and always did this so lovingly and kindly. She was stricken with more severe sickness Sunday, September 4, and never regained her strength, passing on to her hoped for beyond on September 6. Bertha was much loved by the Merritt community and had been a member of the First Christian Church of Merritt for about fourteen years. It has lost one of its brightest jewels. She moved here from Parks county, Texas, in a wagon, helping to share the hardships of the frontier of Oklahoma, when we had schools and homes in dugouts. Bertha was always a saving girl as she grew up with this country, when people had to save, and she never departed from this. When she grew to woman hood she and her sister, Dora, decided to have a double wedding, those being their last days as girls at home. It was about the first of the country's double weddings, so a number of friends were invited to their home to witness the ceremony where she joined the happy bond of married life with George Sitterding. To this union three children were born: Vera May, now 18, Clarence, 12 and Irvin, 10. Mrs. Sitterding left one sister, Jennie Dennison, living at present at Dove Creek, Colorado, and three brothers, Calvin, Millard and Milford. She was preceded to her resting place by her mother and one sister, Dora Buzan. - Contributed by One Who Loved Her.
