Eston Wilkins, son of William and Lucinda Slade, was born October 10, 1903, and passed from this life July 8, 1928, at Hutchinson, Kans., at the age of 24 years, 8 months and 28 days. He was born and raised on the farm home of his parents, with whom he lived until his marriage on January 16, 1924, to Miss Aldine Barcus. In November 1924, he was baptized and became a follower of Jesus Christ. He talked continually of his hope in Christ during his sickness and left messages to all his loved ones that they should put their trust in God that the family circle might not be broken in heaven. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; two sons, Eugene Wilkins, age 8, Dwight Norman, age 2, his father and mother; one brother, Fenton; and four sisters, Mrs. Ellis Fisher, Enice Slade and Zta Slade, all of Stafford, and Mrs. Ansdell Burris of Minneola, Kansas; his aged grandfather, Ed. Slade of Stafford, and his grandmother, Mrs. M. E. Bonham of Stafford. Eston was of a cheerful and sunny disposition and will be sadly missed by many friends and neighbors, and by those who loved him most. The many beautiful flowers bespoke the high esteem and honor accorded Eston by those who knew him. Funeral services were conducted Monday at the home by Rev. John Morris of Ringwood, Okla. Interment was made in the Stafford cemetery (Custer County). Mr. Slade is a relative of J. A. "Grandpa" Hunt of this city. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
