The body was prepared for burial by Grubitz & Son and shipped this afternoon to his home at Irving, Texas, being accompanied by his daughters, Mrs. C. R. White, Mrs. C. H. Keener and Miss Ruby Slater of that place and who had been here with their father. (25 Jan 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY G. W. Slater George Washington Slater was born October the 1st, 1866, at Dallas, Texas, and departed this life on January 17, 1923, at Elk City, Oklahoma. Funeral services were held at Irving, Texas, Friday, January 19th, 1923. Uncle George came to us on Thanksgiving Day, to all appearances a well man and we did so enjoy a visit from him, little dreaming that our dear uncle would be claimed in death while with us. All that loving hands and medical aid could do was done, but to no avail as he seemed to grow gradually worse until the end came at 10:30 o'clock on the night of the seventeenth. He was so tender hearted and kind to every body and to know him was to love him, he was always doing deeds of kindness and love wherever he was, and we know that he has gone to eternal rest for he told us he was saved and unafraid to go. He leaves to mourn his loss three children, Miss Ruby Slater of Dallas; Mrs. C. R. White of Irving, Texas; and Mrs. Charlie Kenner of Irving, Texas; a sister, Grandma Hunsaker of Elk City, Oklahoma, also a host of nieces and nephews and friends. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
