(27 Sep 1923, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. ELVIE SMALLWOOD Again the angel of death has visited our community and claimed one of our most loved and respected friends and neighbors, Mrs. Elvie Smallwood. Elvie Baumwart was born in Ossian, Iowa, Feb. 15, 1886. She came to this place as a child with her parents in 1900. On 28th day of September, 1907, she was married to Fletcher T. Smallwood. She died Sept. 20, 1923 at 7:58 a.m. of gastritis. She leaves two children, a brother, father, and a host of friends to mourn her departure. The children are Orvie and Mabel Smallwood, brother, Lloyd and father, A. C. Baumwart. "Elvie" as she was known by all was one of the best hearted women we ever knew. She was a friend in need and in trouble, sickness or death and she was always there with her help and sympathy. Funeral services were held at the Canute church on Sept. 21, Rev. J. A. Jester officiated. Interment was made in Canute cemetery (Washita County).
