(11 Sep 1924, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY W. M. Smalts W. M. Smalts was born in Pickway County, Ohio, on October 12th, 1847. He was married to Miss Anna Gorwood in 1875. To this union was born one child, George Smalts, who survives him. His wife passed away when George was an infant. In 1881 he was married to Martha Hartsfield. To this union eight children were born, one dying in infancy. He leaves a wife, eight children and one brother, G. H. Smalts of Fort Wayne, Indiana. The children are as follows: Mrs. C. P. Hays, Mrs. H. V. Crane, George, Charlie, Sylvester, Jim, John and Fred. Mr. Smalts was converted in 1900 and joined the Missionary Baptist church at Lonegrove in Washita county, Oklahoma, during the pastorate of Rev. Jones. In 1903 he moved his membership to Hebron Baptist Church into which fellowship he continued until called home July 27th, 1924, at the age of 76 years, 10 months and 17 days. He was a good man and was faithful to God, to his companion to his home, family and to the church. A very large crowd attended the funeral services held at the Hebron Church on Monday afternoon. Beautiful flowers covered the casket. Rev. R. E. Smith, of Foss, a former pastor at Hebron, conducted the services, assisted by Rev. Brisco, of Hebron Church.
