W. Smith was born in Norwood, Mass., August 26, 1900, and died in Elk City, Oklahoma, July 19, 1917, aged 16 years, 10 months and 23 days. In September 1906, the family moved to Elk City, which has since been their home. When Ruth was quite young she received severe injuries from a run-a-way team which made her an invalid the rest of her life. She was tenderly watched over by her parents, who did everything possible to relieve her sufferings and who tried to find some remedy that might cure her. They have the satisfaction of knowing they had done all they could, and they will miss her so much for she was their constant thought and care. But they have the happy knowledge that she is now freed from pain and enjoying life in the home not made with hands. Ruth joined the M. E. church, South, one year ago. At this church the funeral services were held last Friday afternoon conducted by the pastor, Rev. M. T. Allen, after which the body was laid to rest in Fairlawn cemetery, Chandler & Robinson being in charge. The parents and sister, Mrs. Skiff, have the sympathy of all in their sorrow. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
