(2 Jul 1925, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): WILLIAM D. SMITH William D. Smith of Ural, Oklahoma, after seven long months of confinement to his chair with dropsy and leakage of heart passed to his final reward, June 23rd. He was laid to rest in Ural cemetery June 24th. Funeral services held in the cemetery. Mrs. Minnie Mannin, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene at that place officiating. Brother Smith had been declining in health for near two years and since December had not been able to lie down in bed but had remained in his chair day and night suffering intensly. He had lived a constant Christian life for many years and as we called to see him so many times he gave testimony that like Job of old he had kept his integrity and through all those months of suffering and testing and trials, Jesus had been real to him and given grace to sustain through the long days of suffering. We can never forget the prayers we heard him pray and his words of exortion to his children to live right and meet him in Heaven. On Saturday before his passing away he called his wife and children and shaking hands with each one told them good by saying, "Meet me in Heaven." His three step children, W. L. and J. W. Burnbury and Mrs. Ada Wood, with his only son, A. D. Smith, were so faithful to their father and did all they could to give him all the care and comfort possible. In his last good by he took his stepson Billy by the hand and said "Good by Billy, be a good boy and meet the old man in Heaven for that (is) where I'm going." We trust that the day may hasten on when this Father's prayer will be answered in the hearts and lives of his children and grand children, loved ones and friends.
