(15 Mar 1911, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Joseph W. Snoddy was born in Howard County, Mo., Aug. 9, 1846, died at Merritt, Oklahoma March 1911. He professed religion and united with the Presbyterian church at the age of fifteen years. Was married to Miss Mary Terrell of Randolph Co., Mo., April 23, 1872. To this union were born seven children, four of whom survive him, J. E. Snoddy and Miss Mildred of Tulsa, Oklahoma, F. W. Snoddy of Merritt and Mrs. W. B. Mabry of Bridgeport. Mr. Snoddy served as elder in the Presbyterian church for 25 years, was a member of the John B. Gordon Camp of the U.C.V. of Elk City. Funeral service were conducted at the new church by the pastor Rev. B. G. Taylor, assisted by the old family pastor, Rev. J. W. Abbott. A large crowd of friends attended the services. Brother Snoddy was sick for a long time but never seemed to be impatient about his illness. (16 Mar 1911, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. At the home of the family on their farm near Merritt last Friday morning from Brights disease, Mr. John (sic) W. Snoddy, surrounded by his family and a few friends. He leaves a wife and four children to mourn his demise. The Democrat extends condolence to the bereaved family.
