(29 Apr 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Mary A. Snoddy, 78, mother of Judge F. W. Snoddy, of this city and pioneer settler of this county died at the home of her son here Monday evening following a heart attack after a prolonged illness. Funeral arrangements are pending the receipt of word from a daughter, Mrs. P. G. Martin, in Chicago, and a son, J. E. Snoddy, in McKittrick, California. Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. John Tracy, pastor of the Presbyterian church here, who will be assisted by Rev. J. T. Means, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Sayre, according to announcements made today. Mrs. Snoddy was born Jan. 25, 1852, in Howard County, Missouri. She was married to J. W. Snoddy in Missouri and later moved to Oklahoma with him to homestead in the Merritt community. She has lived with her son, Judge Snoddy and Mrs. Snoddy since the death of her husband 19 years ago. She has a daughter, Mrs. W. D. Mabra, in Sayre whom she visited often. Here 10 Years. Mrs. Snoddy has been a resident of Elk City for the past 10 years, coming here with her son from Sayre. She was well known both here and in Sayre and commanded a long list of friends in Merritt and adjoining communities. Her long life in this county and her many associates made her one of the most widely known pioneers in this city. Becoming a member of the Presbyterian church when a young lady, Mrs. Snoddy was active in that church for many years. She was one of the first church supporters in the country and has been influential in the work of the church both here and the one at Sayre. Mrs. Snoddy was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter in Sayre. Her husband was a soldier during the war between the states. Interment will be made in the Fairlawn cemetery with Killough-Hullum, directors, in charge. Mrs. Snoddy is survived only by the four children mentioned. Snoddy in Elk City late Monday evening, in the Presbyterian church at Elk City Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Mrs. Snoddy was born in 1852 in Howard county, Missouri. Shortly after her marriage to J. W. Snoddy they moved to Oklahoma where she lived since. They lived on a homestead in the Merritt community. Since her husbands death 19 years ago Mrs. Snoddy has been living with her son F. W. Snoddy of Elk City and her daughter Mrs. W. D. Mabra in Sayre. Beside the son and daughter mentioned above, Mrs. Snoddy is survived by a daughter Mrs. Martin of Chicago, Ill. and a son J. E. Snoddy of McKittrick, California. Funeral arrangements were delayed until word could be sent to them. They are expected to arrive some time Wednesday. Mrs. Snoddy was a member of the Presbyterian church and also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy chapter in Sayre. Funeral services will be in charge of Rev. J. T. Means of Sayre.
