(22 Feb 1923, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF GRANDPA SNYDER After a linger illness of several weeks, Grandpa Snyder died at the home of his son, J. L. Snyder at 1:00 o'clock this morning. Funeral services were held at the residence this afternoon, Rev. Meek officiating. Interment was made at Fairlawn cemetery. An obituary will be published next week. (1 Mar 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORIAM George Hopkins Snyder was born February 7, 1843, in West Virginia, and moved with his father at the age of 10 years to North Mo., where he made his home until the year 1906 when he moved to Elk City, Oklahoma where the remainder of his life was spent, passing out of this world at 1:15 a.m., February 22, 1923 at the ripe age of 80 years and 15 days. For the past eighteen years of his life, he made his home with his elder son, J. L. Snyder, who, with his sister, Mrs. Martha Spurlock, and a younger son, W. P. Snyder, all of Elk City; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild are left to mourn his loss. He has been a member of the Christian Union Church of Rayville, Mo., for 42 years and has led a simple, devoted life, being fully prepared to meet his Maker. Although his death was daily expected, yet his passing was a shock to those who were taking care of him. Funeral services were held at the home of J. L. Snyder at 3:00 p.m., February 22nd, 1923, by Rev. DeVore assisted by Rev. Lemmex, the remains being laid to rest in East Fairlawn cemetery.
