He grew to manhood in his native state, coming to Oklahoma in 1900 and locating on a homestead near Elk City. Mr. Spangler was one of the early settlers of this part of the comparatively new country. In 1905 he moved to his late home four miles northeast of Canute (Washita County), where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Miss Alto Leach of near Foss, Okla., on February 25, 1902. To this union was born three children, two sons and one daughter. The oldest son, Ray Milton, preceded his father in death about four years. The other son, Glen Arvin and the daughter, Mildred Ethel, with his wife, survive him, and were present at his bedside when he passed away. Mr. Spangler was converted during a revival meeting held at the old Prairie Ridge School House, in 1902, and later united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Elk City. He left a definite testimony during his last illness that he was ready and willing to go, and that all was well. As a citizen, Christian and father and husband he ever stood for that which was righteous, just, upright and clean and his influence in these things has been clearly recognizable and must be greatly appreciated by all who knew him. He leaves his wife, two children, five brothers, three sisters and other relatives with many friends and neighbors to mourn his loss. Mr. Spangler had followed the occupation of a farmer all his life, at which he was quite successful, as his fine farm and comfortable conveniences will testify. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
