Little Billie, as he was familiarly known, took what was thought to be a cold the Friday before his death on Wednesday, gradually becoming worse. All that the doctor at Hammon could do was done, but the child continued to grow worse Monday night, and the parents brought him to Elk City Tuesday to the home of J. C. Steel, where the Drs. Standifer and Jester were called in the vain hope of helping the little one, but he slipped away the next morning, a victim of malignant diptheria. Dr. Jester had helped little Billie into this world and he was present to assist him into the next. Medical science and the loving ministrations of relatives and friends had proved of no avail against the stronger call of a Power we do not understand. Little Billie was a sunny, loving youngster, the pride of his parents' hearts, and the delight and constant companion of his elder brother, O. M. Jr. His sudden death comes as a great shock to them and to the other relatives and friends. His loss is deeply mourned by his parents and brother, his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Spurlock, of Haskell, Texas, and Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Allen of Hammon, besides a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral services were conducted by Grubitz & Son at Fairlawn cemetery, with Rev. Shirley of the Baptist church in charge of the brief ceremony. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: M. F. Spurlock of Haskell, Texas; Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Allen and son and daughter of Hammon; Mr. and Mrs. Perry Linebarger of Herring; C. D. Webb, who has been working in Shamrock, Tex., came here for the funeral. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
