All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ STEARNS, JANE (22 Jan 1908, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY Jane Lester was born February 14th, 1854, in London, England. Her parents moved to Ottawa, Canada in 1858. On March 16, 1873, she was married to D. M. Stearns in Russell county, Canada. They moved to Butler county, Nebraska in 1879. She was converted and joined the M. E. church in 1883. To this Union seven children were born, five girls and two boys, five of which are now living. In December 1902 they moved to Washita county, Oklahoma where they have resided ever since. Sister Stearns departed this life after three weeks of sickness of typhoid pneumonia on January 16th, 1908 at 10:20 p.m. in the triumph of a living faith being 54 years and 3 days old. The funeral was held from the family residence near Canute on Sunday January 19th, at 2 p.m., where an appropriate sermon was preached by the writer assisted by Rev. Hummer of Elk City and was followed to her last resting place by a number of sorrowing relatives and friends. May she rest in peace. D. J. M. Wood, Pastor M.
