All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ STEELE, JESSE (18 Apr 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Jesse Steele died at his home in Elk City April 12, 1929, at the age of 68 years, 9 months and 24 days. Funeral services were held in the chapel of Grubitz and Son mortuary April 15, 1929. Dr. J. A. Jester officiated. Burial was made in Fairlawn cemetery. Grubitz and Son, directors, were in charge of arrangements. (25 Apr 1929, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Jesse Curtis Steele, son of James and Lovonia Steele, was born in Ray County, Missouri, June 18, 1860, died in Elk City, Okla., April 12, 1929, aged 68 years, 10 (sic) months, 6 days (sic). He moved with his mother to Breckenridge, Missouri in 1880. He was engaged in the lumber business at the place for twenty-one years. He was married to Berilla M. Plumb of Breckenridge, Mo., in 1895, where they lived until 1909 when they moved to Elk City, Oklahoma, where they have lived the past twenty years. He was in the lumber business in Elk City, Hammon and Canute for a number of years. Owing to his health failing he was forced to give up all active work, being confined to his home the last two years. Funeral services were held at the chapel of Grubitz & Son Mortuary, April 13, 1929 (sic), with Dr. J. A. Jester, conducting the services. Those attending his funeral from out of town were J. H. Plumb of Fort Worth, Texas, a brother of Mrs. Steele, and Jim Ross of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Steele.
