(19 Jul 1923, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): MRS. W. E. STEELE Last Sunday night at nine thirty o'clock, Mrs. W. E. Steele, the mother of Professor A. G. Steele passed to her reward. Sister Steele had been in bad health for several years and it was hoped that the change from Missouri to Oklahoma would benefit her. We knew this dear mother and wife only a short time but long enough to know her Christian life was a beautiful one. She was a member of a large family all of whom were Christians. The pastor and friends of the family of Sister Steele extend their sympathy and love to those who will miss the presence of Sister Steele. Still we know that the greatest comfort will come from Him and the knowledge that Sister Steele is not dead, but living as Jesus has so wonderfully promised. Sister Steele was born in Cass county, Missouri, October 26, 1857, and died in Elk City, Oklahoma, July 15, 1923. She was married to Brother W. E. Steele, February 22, 1885 and to them were born four children, three of whom are still living, Mrs. W. L. Gum of Alton, Missouri, J. C. Steele of Norwood, Missouri, and Professor A. G. Steele of Elk City, Oklahoma. Mrs. Steele was the youngest of ten children, three of whom are still living: A. B. Shelton, of Hobart, Oklahoma; Jim Shelton of Montrose, Missouri; and Miss Jane Shelton of Muskogee, Okla. Interment was made at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma. Harry S. DeVore, Pastor, Methodist Church, South. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
