E. Summers. Quella Moore was born in Montgomery, Alabama, April 12, 1888. Died 1:00 p.m., January 20, 1923, Having lived 34 years, 9 months, 8 days. She leaves her devoted husband and two sons, Willard, 10 years old and Wilbur (Jack) 7 years old, sorrowing, mourning their greatest loss, a loving faithful companion and a devoted mother. She was married twice, first to Mr. Williams, whose sons we have just mentioned. She and Mr. Thos. E. Summers were united in holy wedlock, February 10, 1919, just after Mr. Summers returned from the Army. She became a Christian in tender years of girlhood, has ever been a soul winner for Christ, living a faithful consistent Christian life. Soon after their marriage she began to exercise her powers to lead Mr. Summers to Christ. Her efforts were crowned with success in the summer of 1921. She was one of the most faithful and consecrated teachers in Sunday school. She had a class of boys and girls about the age of twelve who hated much to give her up when she became so ill she had to turn place to another. She began to be afflicted December 1921 with tumor of the brain and was confined to her bed after April 1922. After their family physician gave up hope of relieving her, Brother Summers took her to Oklahoma City. Doctors shook their heads and gave same judgment. Then he took her to Mayo Bros. at Rochester, Minn. They too gave no hope. He brought her back to Oklahoma City, but to no help, then back home where she died. She was blessed with a new home, but never knew a day of health and ease after she was in it. She was a great sufferer. The delicate nervous system afflicted in the most vital part caused acute pain which was endured with patience. Brother Summers says, "I hope to so live that I may be able to meet her and enjoy with her that eternal life of bliss in the world that shall never end." J. C. Carman (25 Jan 1923, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DEATH OF MRS. T. E. SUMMERS Quelia Moore was born in Alabama, April 12, 1888, and died in Elk City, Oklahoma, January 20, 1923, at the age of 34 years, 9 months and 9 days, of tumor of the brain. She was married to T. E. Summers soon after he returned from the World War and came to Elk City as a bride a few years ago. During her short residence here she has made many friends. She was always active in church work, being a teacher of a boys and girls class at the Church of Christ, having been a member of that church since her girlhood. The illness of Mrs. Summers lasted over a period of one year and two months. Everything known to medical science was done but of no avail. She was under the care of a doctor at Oklahoma City for the past several months, and previous to that had visited Mayo Bros. at Rochester, Minn., but they gave them no hope for her recovery. Her mother living in Georgia, came to be with her while in Oklahoma City. She returned to her home at Elk City New Years Day, and was apparently in better health and better spirits until Friday, when she began suffering intense pain which lasted until her death. On account of the illness of Rev. Carman pastor of the Church of Christ, funeral services were conducted by Rev. Billingsby of Cordell, at the Church of Christ building, where a number of friends gathered to pay their respects to the deceased. She leaves her husband, two sons by a former marriage, her mother and many other relatives and friends to mourn her loss. The News Democrat with its many readers offer deepest sympathy to the bereaved ones. --------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/beckham/beckham.html
