All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ TAYLOR, JAMES ANDERSON (10 Mar 1927, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): GRANDPA TAYLOR James Anderson Taylor was born in Farlan county, Ark., May 30, 1852, and died February 21, 1927, aged 75 years, 8 months and 21 days. During the Civil War his father was slain and about that time his mother passed away, leaving he and several brothers and sisters alone. They became scattered and the whereabouts of them is still unknown. When a boy he came to Texas, where he grew to manhood. He was married to Miss Mary Green in 1878. To this union were born ten children, 5 living and 5 dead. The living are Mrs. John Duncan and Henry Taylor, of Canute; Mrs. V. E. McAdams of Atoka, Okla.; Mrs. Jody McAdams of Bald Knob, Ark.; and Mrs. Lewis Evans of East Texas. He came to Oklahoma with his family in the early days and filed on land south of Foss, selling out later. He traveled about for several years, over Texas and Oklahoma. He came back to Oklahoma and for some time lived on the Ellsbury farm west of Elk City. Then moving to the farm three miles south of Canute, he lived with his wife and only son until his death. He was taken sick early in October with leakage of the heart. For over four months he suffered and on the 21st day of February at 8:30 a.m. he passed to the Great Beyond. His wife and only two of the children were at his bedside at the time of his death. The other children were unable to come. His funeral was preached at Canute by Rev. Shipley and he was buried at Ural Cemetery by the side of a daughter. Gentry-Killough in charge. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the many friends and neighbors, also Drs.
