(30 Dec 1921, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Manson (sic) E. Thomas was born in Galena, Kansas, April 16, 1863; was one of the early settler(s) in Oklahoma, and in 1890 served as United States marshal; was one of the first settlers in the Doxey neighborhood. Mr. Thomas was married to his present wife at Doxey, whom he leaves to mourn his death. They had no children. He moved from that vicinity in 1915 and took a claim in New Mexico, living there until the claim was proved up, then returned to this vicinity in December 1919. Since that time Mr. Thomas (or Grandpa, as the little folks called him) made tamales, candies and eats of various kinds. The children could tell when "Grandpa" was coming by the ring of the bell on his wagon. Grandpa was a great lover of children and made friends by kind deeds and cherishing words. Grandpa was a good Christian man, and believed in being prepared for the meeting of his God. The suddenness of his death was a shock to all, dying at 2:30 o'clock, December 26, of heart failure.
