(20 Dec 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY - HAYNI THOMPSON born March 21st, 1850, at the old homestead in Lincoln township, and died December 6th, 1917, at Elk City, Okla. He was the son of Allen H. and Susan (Miller) Thomson (sic), and was the last surviving member of that family so far as known. It is possible, however, that one brother in Texas is still living. Mr. Thomson was married in 1874 to Mary, daughter of William and Adeline Houston of Ray county. To this union were born two children: Frank, now in the County Assessor's office at Cordell, Okla., and Effie, who died September 20th, 1896. His wife dying August 20th, 1880. Mr. T. was again married in April, 1885, to Fannie, daughter of Daniel and Vadna Brown of this county, by whom he had one daughter, Edith, now Mrs. Wm. Kincain (sic) of Elk City. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and two children above mentioned, one grandson and many relatives in this community. Mr. Thomson united with the Christian church when about 21 years of age, and died a consistent and faithful member. He was a member of the Masonic Order, having been a Mason in the old Knoxville Lodge, and afterwards becoming a charter member of the Cowgill Lodge No. 651. He was also a member of the M.W.A. The funeral was held at the Christian Church in Cowgill, December 10, the services being conducted by Elder J. E. Dunn of Richmond, after which the body was laid to rest with full Masonic honors in the beautiful Cowgill cemetery, the Mason's service at the grave being led by Bro. B. F. Pile of Polo. The pallbearers were Messrs. Sid F., Sam, Crosby and Allen Thompson, E. M. McCray and Judge B. F. Kincaid, all nephews of the deceased. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
