All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ TISDAL, CAROL WATSON (29 Mar 1930, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Funeral services for Carol Watson Tisdal, father of Dr. V. C. Tisdal and Carol Tisdal of this city, and a pioneer resident of Washita county will be held in Cordell at 3 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Methodist Episcopal church South with Rev. R. C. Taylor, pastor, in charge it was announced today. Mr. Tisdal died at 10:30 o'clock last evening in the Tisdal hospital, terminating an illness of six years. Dr. Tisdal arrived at the bedside of his father about 7 o'clock last night, after an airplane flight from eastern Oklahoma where he learned of the serious condition of the elder Mr. Tisdal. Mr. Tisdal has been in the hospital intermittently for the past several months. He became suddenly worse Thursday morning. Practically all of his immediate family was at his bedside at the time of his death last evening. With the exception of his son, Carol Tisdal, who was in Phoenix, Ariz. The son left Phoenix immediately upon receiving word of the death of his father and is expected to arrive in the city sometime tonight. Mr. Tisdal came to Oklahoma in 1893, homesteading on land 14 miles east of Cordell, where he lived for 13 years, at which time he moved to Cordell to engage in the coal and grain business. Mr. Tisdal was born in Arkansas, March 17, 1863, where he lived until he was married to Miss Molly E. Morehead, October 8, 1884. The couple went to Texas where they lived until coming to Oklahoma. He is a member of the M. E. Church, South, having become a member of that church when a young man. Immediate members of his family surviving are his widow, Mrs. Tisdal and seven children. The three daughters are: Mrs. L. M. Jones, Mrs. C. R. Lewis, and Miss Wennie Tisdal, of Cordell. Four sons are: Dr. Tisdal and Carol Tisdal, of Elk City; Chelsey Tisdal, of Sayre; and Bill Tisdal of Oklahoma City, who is attending the school of medicine there. Relatives surviving Mr. Tisdal are five sisters. They are: Mrs. J. A. Jester of Elk City; Mrs. Willie Kiddo of Kismer, Kans., Mrs. T. B. Good of Cooper, Tex., Mrs. Jennie Cochran and Mrs. J. M. Armfield of Cordell. Members of the family have been at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Tisdal here since Thursday but were to go to the family residence in Cordell this afternoon it is understood, when the body of Mr. Tisdal will be taken there. Grubitz and Son, funeral directors, are in charge of the arrangements. (3 Apr 1930, Thursday, Sayre Headlight, Sayre, Beckham Co, OK): Funeral services were held for C. W. Tisdal, father of Jerry Tisdal of Sayre and Dr. V. C. Tisdal of Elk City in Cordell Sunday afternoon. It is estimated that over 500 were in attendance at the funeral. Nurses from the Tisdal hospital attended the services in a body dressed in uniform. They formed guard lines down which the pall bearers passed with the casket. Rev. R. C. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, South of Cordell read the rites for the service. Tisdal had been a member of that church for many years. Tisdal is survived by his widow, three sons and two daughters. He had been in failing health for the past six years but became dangerously ill only 3 months ago. He died in the Tisdal hospital Friday morning at 10 o'clock. He was an early resident of this country and well known in Beckham and surrounding counties.
