(4 Oct 1917, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): George W. Ulmer was born near Plainfield, New Jersey, October 31st 1849, and died in Elk City, Oklahoma, September 29th, 1917. When a young man he came to Illinois, where he was married to Anna Hannun, March 20th, 1871. To this union six children were born, five sons and one daughter. The wife died the 14th of December 1915, and a son, Henry, died in Canada last summer. The surviving children are, Frank Ulmer of Florida; Mrs. Cora Reding of Brookfield, Mo.; Charles, Addison and Ward Ulmer of Elk City. Deceased moved from N. J. to Illinois, later he and his family moved to Brookfield, Mo., where they lived for twenty years, and in 1900 they moved to Elk City. He was a contractor and builder, and many of our best building are monuments to his splendid work. When a young man he joined the Christian Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for forty-six years. Funeral services were held at the home on Sunday afternoon in charge of the Masons. Rev. Houck making an address. A large crowd of friends were present to pay their last tribute to the deceased, who was known to nearly every one of our citizens. They followed the procession to the depot. The body was taken to Brookfield, Mo., for interment to rest by the side of the wife and son, who had so recently passed away. The sons living here accompanied the remains to their last resting place. The bereaved family have the deepest sympathy of their friends in their sorrow.
