He had been sick but a few days, and the report which reached the streets Sunday morning was rather a surprise to his friends. Jesse was well known here, having been connected with his father's mercantile establishment at various times, for several years. Jesse Irvin Utt was born in Sumner county, Missouri, March 19, 1884. Deceased in Elk City, Oklahoma, October 27, 1907; being aged 23 years, 7 months and 8 days. Before his demise he gave his family evidence of his having made his peace with God through his acceptance, by faith repentance, of the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was married to Miss Boller, March 20, 1905. To this union one child was born October 1907. He leaves a wife, child, father, mother, paternal grandfather, maternal grandfather, three brothers and one sister with a host of friends to mourn their loss. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. James Condiff assisted by Rev. Hummer. After the services the remains were quietly laid to rest in Elk City cemetery to await the resurrection morn. (31 Oct 1907, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Reaper Called Him Early. We sorrowfully chronicle the death of Jesse Utt, oldest son of N. D. Utt, of peritonitis, last Sunday morning. He was buried Sunday evening in the Elk burying ground. He leaves a widow and one child. Jesse was a popular young man in Elk, it seems that everyone knew Jesse. He had a host of friends and no enemies. He had a right spirit, pleasant disposition. We all mourn his loss and extend the greatest sympathy to his relatives. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
