(1 Sep 1909, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Mrs. John Valkema of this city died Wednesday of heart trouble. Short funeral services were held at the house conducted by her pastor, Rev. B. G. Taylor. The body was shipped to Richmond, Missouri, for burial. She leaves a husband and two little girls. (9 Sep 1909, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): RESOLUTIONS OF SYMPATHY Adopted by Elk City Camp 4210 R.N.A. on the death of Neighbor Mary W. Valkema which occurred Wednesday, Aug. 25, 1909, at Elk City, Okla. Whereas: It has pleased Almighty God in his power and wisdom to enter our Camp for the third time, and remove from us our beloved Neighbor, Mary W. Valkema. Therefore be it resolved: That we, the entire Camp, do deeply mourn the untimely death of our beloved neighbor, and extend to the bereaved husband and two daughters, our deepest sympathy and assure them that while they mourn the loss of a loving wife and mother in home, we mourn the loss of a dear friend and neighbor. And be it further resolved: That the removal of such a life from the midst will be deeply felt by all, and the sympathy of our camp, be extended to the ones bereft of her love and care.
