NIGHT AT HIS HOME William Vanderslice passed away at his home on North Booth street in Elk City Wednesday night, March 20, at 8:30 o'clock, following an illness of about eight days. Mr. Vanderslice was eighty-one years old at the time of his death. He was born in Nolensville, Tenn., and moved with his parents to Arkansas at the age of nine. During the Civil war he enlisted in the Confederate army at the age of sixteen and served for practically one year in Company E, Second Arkansas Cavalry under Captain W. H. Cooper and General Forrest. While residing in Tulip, Arkansas, he married Miss Alice Germany who preceding him in death four years and one half month. Mr. Vanderslice moved with his family to Elk City about twenty years ago where he has since resided. His kind and gentle nature and goodness of character had won him a host of friends in this vicinity who join with the family in their grief over his departure. Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, Rev. John A. Tracy, pastor of the church conducted the services. Interment was held in Fairlawn cemetery. Relatives who survive Mr. Vanderslice are two sons, W. A. Vanderslice of Chicago, and S. F. Vanderslice of Cleveland, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. O. L. Stewart of Lindsey, Okla., Miss Effie Vanderslice of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. H. I.
