Launa, as she was known to old and young, had been critically ill for more than a week, but relatives and friends cherished hopes that her life might be spared. Everything possible was done but the dread disease refused to yield to human skill and she passed into the great beyond. Mrs. Ward was a general favorite in the circles in which she moved and had a state-wide acquaintance, especially in the membership of the American Legion and the Auxiliary, in which latter organization she was quite active, having held the position of president, secretary and also president of the district Auxiliary. A splendid lady in every way, she possessed an unusually pleasing personality and jolly disposition, made friends readily and retained them by reason of her genuine worth. She was born at Texmo, Oklahoma, June 28, 1903, and was married to Harry F. Ward, August 27, 1921, and to this union one daughter was born. They made their home in Elk City until about two years ago, when they removed to Woodward to take charge of the Electric Sanitary Laundry, owned by Henry Hunter of this city. The body was brought to Elk City and funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Broadway Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. E. C. Webb, and Rev. John A. Tracy of the Presbyterian church. She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, little daughter, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Parks of Lymon, Okla., her sisters, Elizabeth of Tulsa, Kate, Margaret and Sadie; her brothers John Parks, San Diego, Cal.; and Bill, Mickey and Walter Parks of Lymon. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful, a mute testimonial to the character of the departed one. Her passing is regretted by all who knew her and she will be sorely missed. The News-Democrat joins the many friends in extending sympathy in their time of sorrow. (27 Dec 1928, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Launa Ward was born June 28, 1903.
