A large crowd was present showing the love and respect in which deceased was held by all. Obituary. MRS. DREW WATKINS Mrs. Carrie Belle Watkins, the daughter of Mr. and Mr. J. H. Merritt of Elk City, and the charming wife of Drew Watkins for the short period of three months and five days, answered the call of the One Most High on December 20, 1918. The bud of life had just blossomed, her age being twenty-three years and eleven months. She was born January 20, 1895 at DeLeon, Texas, coming to Oklahoma and making it her home since 1902. She and her husband had only been back from army camp thirty-six hours when she was taken with pneumonia, continually growing worse until death came two weeks later. The body was cared for by Grubitz & Son in a way in which the most critical spoke words of commendation. Rev. Bowles of the Baptist church of Elk City spoke words of consolation to the bereaved ones. She leaves a husband, father, mother, three sisters, six brothers, and a host of friends to mourn her loss. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
