(19 Jan 1922, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): OBITUARY Mrs. M. J. Watkins. Martha J. James was born at Jamestown, Arkansas, March 8, 1858. She was married to J. S. Watkins September 27, 1879. To this union were born five children: Sterling, Edgar, Thad, Drew and Clara. Her companion and the latter four were present at the time of her death. Sterling died in infancy. She also leaves a brother and sister, seven grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn her departure. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother and a consecrated christian. For forty-one years she was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Although she had been an invalid for five years she bore it all patiently. Her faith in God never wavered. WATKINS DEAD Mrs. J. S. Watkins died last Saturday, January 14th, at her home southeast of Elk City, aged 63 years, 8 months and 6 days. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon conducted by Rev. J. B. Conley where a large crowd was in attendance to show the love and esteem of friends and neighbors to this noble woman.
