H. G. WEGNER It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of a beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister. Ollie J. Wegner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Smith, of Texola, Okla., was born July 4th, 1884 in Illinois Bend, Cook County, Texas. She died in Shawnee, November 20th, 1919, aged 35 years, 4 months and 16 days. She was sick only two days, and before this seemed to be in the best of health, and had remarked, "I never felt better in my life, surely something is going to happen." She took suddenly ill with locked bowels on Tuesday and at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday she passed away. Just a short time before, Nov. 8th, the family had a reunion at Texola, all being present including a brother who had not been home for nine years. A family group (photo?) was taken in which Ollie looked the picture of health. It was a happy occasion when every child and grand child of Mr. and Mrs. Smith were there, and they little thought then this would be the last time they would be together. Mr. and Mrs. Wegner had been living at Altus where Corporal Wegner was a recruiting officer, and had only gone to Shawnee the week before where he was in charge of recruiting station. Everything was done for the sufferer that was possible. She seemed to realize the seriousness of her condition, and a short time before she passed away she looked up at a picture of her boy and mother hanging over her bed, and she told the nurse that she had placed her hand in Jesus' hand and that He would take care of her boy. The parents, sisters and brothers went to Shawnee to accompany the remains to Texola, for interment, the Royal Neighbors at Shawnee showing them every kindness. Mrs. Wegner was a member of the Maywood Royal Neighbors of Oklahoma City also the Ladies and Knights of Security. The funeral services held at Texola were attended by a large number of friends. Among these present from a distance were: Mrs. A. O. Miller and daughters of Elk City, Mrs. Early of El Reno, and relatives from Carter. Many beautiful flowers covered her casket. She was laid to rest in Texola cemetery on Saturday evening beside her baby daughter, who was buried eleven years ago. Deceased leaves a husband, son, parents, four sisters: Mrs. Dr. Howard, Mrs. Ruby Wallin, Mrs. Lennie Bryant of Texola and Mrs. Edith Schuble, of Oklahoma City, two brothers, Luther Smith of Oklahoma City and Bert Smith of Billings, Montana. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
