(25 Feb 1926, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mr. John H. C. Weiss was born July 30th, 1866 in Kansas City, Mo., and died February 20, 1926, at his home three miles east of Berlin, Oklahoma, at the age of 59 years, 6 months and 7 days. He was married to Louise D. Calentzky at Chanute, Kansas, December 5, 1894. Two children were born to this union. They are Fred J. Weiss and Mrs. Katie Harrington who were with him at the time of his death. Besides his wife and two children, he leaves to (sic) grandchildren, a brother, J. M. Weiss of Kansas City, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Louise Tillman of Everett, Washington. The brother and sister were unable to attend the funeral on account of illness in their homes. The funeral was preached Sunday February 21, 1926 at 2:30 at the Church of Christ in Berlin of which he has been a member for 8 years. Rev. Musgraves of Elk City, Okla., made a very sympathetic and encouraging talk to the bereaved ones and a large number of friends were there to pay their last respects to their friends. The remains were laid to rest in the Berlin cemetery (Roger Mills County) with Grubitz and Son in charge. "Daddy" Weiss (as he was called by many of his friends) moved with his family, to his farm in the Missouri community fifteen years ago the day he passed away, which was February 20, 1911. His friends were numbered by his acquaintance. He was dearly loved by old and young as he always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. He was ill for so long and was so patient and always appreciated every kindness done him, by his wife, children, the doctor and friends, but his condition was almost hopeless from the first. The many friends of the deceased wish to offer their sympathy to the bereaved family. May we say and do everything possible to help them over their grief. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
