This morning at 8 o'clock all that was mortal of Joseph Wells passed to the Great Beyond. Mr. Wells was about 60 years old, and had lived in the southwest part of Elk City for some time. He had been in feeble health for three or four months, and early this morning seemed no worse than usual. He had to be proped (sic) up in bed for sometime, and this morning about 8 o'clock he told the folks that he was tired, and wished to lay down and rest. The pillows were taken from under him, and he seemed to go to sleep. He leaves a wife and four daughters and one son at home to mourn his untimely death. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire city. Funeral services at 11 o'clock to-morrow. (8 Jun 1910, Wednesday, Elk City Record, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Died. Joseph Wells. Aged Fifty Seven years and five months. Son of Robert and Parathenia Wells, was born December 25, 1853. Died of Dropsy and heart trouble at his home in Elk City, Okla., April 24, 1910. He was born near Owingsville, Bath county, Ky., where he lived during his early life, and married Miss Georgie Price. They came to Okla., twenty years ago, before the opening, lived near Kingfisher fourteen years, four years near Taloga in Dewy (sic) County, four years in Elk City. Mr. Wells was a man of good health up to about last August, when he began to decline gradually until his death came few days ago. He is survived by his wife and six children - three boys and three girls. Mr. Wells was an energetic man, had many friends whose company he enjoyed; and his life at home with his family was filled with much pleasure. The bereft family have the sincere sympathy of all who know them. May the shadows of the present soon pass away and their coming days be blessed with the worlds greatest gifts - a sweet, simple, contented life, that so characterized him who has gone, and may their ideal be the sweet one pictured in his dieing words.
