WEST PASSES TO THE BEYOND One by one they are gathering home. We have occasion this week to chronicle the passing of another of Elk City's respected citizens, Mrs. Joseph F. West, who departed this life on Saturday, Oct. 30. Linnie Ellen Huff was born in Illinois May 20, 1867. With her parents she moved to Kansas in early girlhood. Here she met Joseph F. West, to whom she was married on May 10, 1890. To this union four children were born, Weaver, who died in 1907, Jerry L., Nina and Bessie, who survive her, together with two brothers, W. D. and J. L. Huff of Geary, Okla. In 1898 the family moved to Oklahoma, settling at Geary. Three years later they moved to Elk City, where Mrs. West resided until her death. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. The funeral was held Monday at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist Episcopal church, South, Rev. O. E. Palmer, pastor of the First Christian church, officiating. Many friends were in attendance and many beautiful flowers covered the casket, coming from friends who loved and admired the beautiful Christian character of this precious mother and friend. Her husband, Joe West, died a little over a year ago after an illness of nearly a year. While the grief of the children was great, in giving up such a good, devoted mother, yet they are consoled in the thought that their parents had ever been true Christians and realize now the mother is so happy with the loved one gone before. The News-Democrat with their host of friends extend sympathy in their sorrow and may the Comforter be very near to them at this time. TO MRS. WEST'S FUNERAL John Huff, wife and son, and Wm. Huff and family of Geary were here Monday to attend the funeral of Mrs. J. F. West, she being a sister of the Messrs. Huff. Jerry West came from Buffalo, Texas, and Miss Nina West came from Jennings, Okla., where she is teaching. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
