BUTCH WILCOX OF CARTER The citizens of Carter, Elk City and vicinity were greatly shocked on learning of the sudden death of Mrs. Butch Wilcox, Friday, May 18, 1923. Mrs. Wilcox took sick Friday noon and the doctor summoned and at 1:30 p.m. she became the mother of a fine baby boy who she named Francis. Within a few minutes after the birth of the baby the death angel hovered over the little mother and called her away. Mrs. Wilcox who was formerly Mary Elizabeth Clark, is survived by her husband, Mr. Butch Wilcox, a little son Francis, a father, Mr. W. S. Clark, two brothers Gene Clark and Carl Clark of Port, Oklahoma, two sisters, Mrs. Bird Stewart of Berlin, Oklahoma and Mrs. Erma Lawson of Duncan, Oklahoma, and a host of relatives and close friends who greatly mourn their loss. Funeral services were held at the Wilcox home at Carter and interment made in the Pink cemetery (Washita County), Saturday afternoon, May the 19th. The services were very impressive and the floral offering beautiful. The business houses of Carter closed during the funeral services and every person, friend or stranger, seemed to mourn the loss of this little mother and devoted wife. The many friends of the Wilcox and Clark families wish to extend to them in this hour of sorrow, their heart felt love and sympathy. Obituary. Mary Elizabeth Clark Wilcox was born May 10th, 1903, at Port, Oklahoma, and died May the 18th, 1923, at Carter, Oklahoma. When very young Mary's mother died leaving her in the care of her devoted father, Mr. W. S. Clark and brother Gene Clark. At the age of 13 Mary was converted and joined the Baptist church. Mary's father and brother, being very much interested in her education sent her to the best College for girls that could be selected. After completing her education Mary kept home for her father and brother and all three became very much attached to one another. On August the 1st, 1922, Mary was married to Mr. Butch Wilcox of Carter, Oklahoma, and they made their home with Mr. Wilcox's parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Wilcox at Carter. While in the home Mary became very much attached to this family and they with her devoted husband and other loved ones greatly mourn their loss.
