J. L. WILSON The following tribute was taken from the Burt County Herald, published at Tekomah, Nebraska: Mrs. J. L. Wilson Word was received Saturday of the death of Mrs. John L. Wilson, at home in Los Angeles, Calif. The news brought sadness to many Tekamah homes as she had been for many years an esteemed resident of this city. Miss Ella Means was born in Jackson county, Iowa, in the late fifties, and came to Burt county, Nebraska, with her parents in the early sixties. She was married to John L. Wilson at Tekamah, September 30th, 1874, and to them four children were born, two sons, Roy and Heber, and two daughters, Mildred and Marjorie. In April, 1901, the family moved to Elk City, Oklahoma, where Mr. Wilson died a few years ago, since then the widow with her daughter, Miss Mildred, have lived in Los Angeles. Mrs. Wilson was a favorite in Tekamah during her long residence. She possessed rare artistic talent and conducted an art studio in her home for a number of years where she gave lessons in oil painting, pastel, and hammered brass work, to a very large class, until her removal to Oklahoma twenty years ago. Mrs. Wilson is survived by her four children all of whom were present at the time of her demise. The interment occurred in Los Angeles, on Monday, December 28th. The deep sympathy of many old time friends of the family in Tekamah is extended to the children in this their hour of great sorrow. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
