ELI WILSON The sudden death of Mrs. Eli Wilson last Monday morning takes from our city one who has been a resident and loved citizen for almost two decades. The first intimation of anything serious was not of sickness but a telegram to her daughter, Mrs. A. G. Yates, telling of her mother's instant death from heart failure. Mrs. Wilson had been visiting her grandson, Dr. S. Doyle Tomlinson, at Oklahoma City for several weeks; she was in reasonable health and had accepted an invitation to visit relatives at Shawnee when the Lord gave his invitation for heavenly residence. She was born in Gibson County, Indiana, on May 11th, 1850, her maiden name being Irene Meade. After her marriage with Eli Wilson, the home was made first in Texas and then in Elk City since 1907. There are two children, both living, Mrs. A. G. Yates of Elk City and Mrs. Beaver whose home is in Kansas. Early in life Mrs. Wilson became a follower of Jesus Christ and lived in harmony with her faith. Her large circle of friends found her a competent helper in their seasons of trouble and sickness, a cheerful companion, a truly social type of woman. Appropriate funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the local Presbyterian church whose ministrations Mrs. Wilson regularly attend. The pastor, Rev. J. A. Tracy, was assisted by Rev. R. B. Gettys of the First Methodist Church. Both of her daughters, the family of Dr. Tomlinson, her grandson at whose home she died, and a large concourse of relatives and friends from Elk City and from a distance were present at her last service. Burial was in West Fairlawn cemetery. There under a bank of flowers brought by her loving world, she was placed at rest with the simple rite of Christian burial whose enduring note is blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. CARD OF THANKS We desire to extend our appreciation to all who so generously helped and comforted us in our recent bereavement. Our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt filled a large place in our lives. We express our thanks to Rev. Tracy for the consolation of his beautiful and fitting tribute, to the choir who rendered the songs she loved as well, to all who spoke words of sympathy. A. G. Yates and family. W. M. Beever (sic) and family. J. M. Carter and family. S. D. Tomlinson and family. T. B. Walford and family. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
