Mrs. Winn was living with his mother. W. H. Winn received word Saturday that Warren, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Winn of Duncan had undergone an operation for appendicitis. Mr. Winn was formerly City Clerk at Elk City. Because of this serious condition, J. B. was unable to attend his mother's funeral. (19 Apr 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): W. H. Winn returned Thursday from Fayette, Mo., where he had been called because of the death of his mother. He says she celebrated her birthday a few days before her death and felt so well then and later called to the neighbors who could not be there telling them what a fine time they had. She was sick only a day or so. She had kept up a correspondence with him until the week before her death, and her letters were written in splendid hand and she never made a mistake in her spelling. She had always enjoyed such good health and always said she wanted to go without a lingering sickness, and in this her wish was gratified. She was a constant reader of the News Democrat which she enjoyed every week. Mr. Winn was deeply touched by the kindness of the people in the old home, where she had lived most of her life. The floral offerings were beautiful and he appreciated more than he could say the flowers sent there by the members of the Christian Church of Elk City. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
