All rights reserved. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/copyright.htm ************************************************ WOODS, JAMES TURNER (29 Apr 1926, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): James Turner Woods was born in Franklin County, Tenn., on Dec. 25, 1851 and died in Elk City, Oklahoma, April 20, 1926, at 10:25 p.m. at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 25 days. He moved to Travis county, Texas at the age of 22 and at the age of 27 he was married to Miss Roxey Ann Crump. To this union were born ten children, he has six sons and four daughters living, all living at Elk City with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. Minnie Whitley of Royston, Texas, all children were present at the time of his death. He and his wife and family moved to Beckham County and settled on a farm seven miles west and one mile south of Elk City in 1907 where he resided until 1925 when he moved to this city. He united with the Baptist church at the age of 27 to which he was a faithful member until the end. He leaves a wife, six sons and four daughters, Charley, Matt, John, Jim, Felix and Frank Woods, Mrs. Lula Campbell, Mrs. Mary Reid, Mrs. Ruth Walker and Mrs. Minnie Whitley and twenty six grand children, three great grandchildren, seven grandchildren deceased, a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church in Elk City on April 21, 1926 at 1 p.m., Rev. L. D. Mitchell officiating. He has been a member of the W.O.W. order for the past twenty-nine years. --- Mrs. W. R. Whitely of Royston, Texas, who was called to the bedside of her father, J. T. Woods, and Mrs. A. C. Staley of Olney, Texas, who was called to the bedside of her grandfather left Monday for the home. Mrs. Staley will visit a few days with her aunt, Mrs. Whitley, Mr. George Staley accompanied Mrs. A.
