(13 Sep 1923, Thursday, Elk City News Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): JAMES H. WRAY, Sr., DEAD The news of the death of James H. Wray, Sr., was received here Monday and brought sorrow to many friends of the deceased and family. Mr. Wray had been in Oklahoma City for several months with his daughter, Mrs. T. J. Warren, where every care was given him. He had been in poor health for some time and a few months ago it was thought he could not survive long, the children being called here to his bedside, but he took a change for the better and later went to Oklahoma City. Mr. Wray came to this part of the country about 1900, filing on a homestead northeast of Elk City, and which has ever since been his home. Mr. Wray was 85 years old. In November 21, 1866, he was married to Tabitha Ann Vaughn and they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1917. Besides the widow, the following children survive him: Mrs. T. J. Warren, Mrs. J. W. Northcutt and Miss Lina Ray (sic) of Oklahoma City, Mrs. S. E. VanPelt and J. H. Wray, Jr., of Elk City, and Mrs. A. K. Russell and T. G. Ray (sic) of Richmond, Missouri. Mr. Wray was a member of the First Christian Church of Elk City. The funeral services were held in Oklahoma City, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. E. C. Mobley officiating and interment made in Fairlawn cemetery of that city.
