(24 Jul 1919, Elk City Newspaper, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): IN MEMORY OF MRS. G. W. WRIGHT Alice Gilmartin was born in Chapman's Point, McCoupin Co., Ill., on January 28th, 1849, and died July 19th, 1919. She was married September 16, 1869 to G. W. Wright, who passed away January 28th, 1918. Two daughters were born to this union, Mrs. Ella Cafky of Forgan, Okla., and Mrs. (sic) Margaret Wright of Jacksonville, Ill. When fifteen years of age she united with Christian church, continuing in that relationship until she went to join the Saints Triumphant. What an inspiration she was to her friends during her last illness, which she spent at the Musick Hospital where she was so tenderly cared for. She made her arrangements for her departure just like going off for a visit. There was no terror in death for her. Funeral services were to have been held at the Christian church on Sunday morning, but on account of the rain were held at the home of Dr. J. E. Standifer. The Music Club sang several selections, Rev. Coffey gave a sweet message, after which the body was taken to Woodward for interment. (24 Jul 1919, Southwest Press, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): Mrs. Alice Gillmartin Wright was born near Chapmans Point, Ill., January 28, 1849, and was 70 years of age. She became the wife of G. W. Wright, who preceded her into the great beyond a few months ago, September 16, 1869. Two daughters were born to them, Mrs. Ella Wright Cafky of Forgan, Okla., and Miss Margaret Wright of Jacksonville, Ill. On account of the pouring rain, the funeral services were held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Standifer instead of at the First Christian church, as was intended, and which was tastefully decorated for the occasion, in the presence of loving friends and her son and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Cafky. The services were conducted by Rev. Coffey, assisted by Rev. Bowles and Rev. Posey. She leaves two daughters and a son-in-law and six grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives to mourn her loss and to rejoice over her release after many months of suffering. Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Cafky and Miss Iris Standifer accompanied her to Woodward, where interment took place. For four months Mrs. Wright lay in her little bed room at the Musick Hospital, attended by kind and thoughtful nurses who had learned to love Mother Wright, as they called her, very dearly, and by her many friends whom she always met with a cheery smile and a loving welcome. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
