Zemer, 71, died at the family residence at 418 South Washington street following a long illness which he contracted while an engineer in Tela, Honduras. The Masonic lodge, No. 182, of this city, will conduct the services, according to an announcement made Saturday. Rev. J. A. Tracy, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will read the rites. Mr. Zemer was in Central America until about six months ago when doctors advised him to return to the United States. He has been here trying to overcome the malady which set upon him while in Honduras but was unable to regain his strength. He succumbed after becoming weaker for several weeks. Born in Ohio on Feb. 12, 1859, Mr. Zemer spent many years in that region getting his education and later experience in engineering which finally took him to Central America. He was a pioneer in that country, helping in the opening of the railways into many sections of the territory. The life of the frontiersman, braving the many hardships of his craft singled him out as one of the most enthusiastic engineers in the work. Mr. Zemer was a member of Theodore Roosevelt lodge of the A.F. and A.M. at New Orleans. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Railway Engineers. He had been affiliated with the Presbyterian church for a number of years, making that church his preference. Surviving Mr. Zemer are his widow and five children. Four of the children were at the bedside of their father at the time of his death. They were: Z. B. Zemer, of Lobelville, Tenn.; LeRoy Zemer, of New Orleans; and Ora and Vada Zemer, of this city. A son, Emmett Zemer, lives in Panama. Interment will be made in the Fairlawn cemetery and will be in charge of the Masonic lodge. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
