ZIMMERMAN DIES IN OKLAHOMA CITY Bert L. Zimmerman, a well known broom corn man, who has been in Elk City for some time, and who has been making this place his headquarters for several years, died at Oklahoma City last Saturday afternoon after an illness of a week from pneumonia. The news of his death came as a shock to his many friends here. He was one who made friends wherever he went, was of a jovial happy nature, one of earth's noblemen. Messrs. Cutler and Ballard went to Oklahoma City to attend the funeral. B. L. Zimmerman B. L. Zimmerman was born August 28, 1881, near LaBelle, Mo., and passed beyond December 28, 1918, age 37 years and 4 months. He was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Zimmerman of Fairview, Okla. Of a family of three children he is the first to go. His eldest brother, Roy, lives in Burns, Wyo., and the youngest, Earl, in Cheyenne, Wyo. On October 28, 1914, he was married to Miss Jessie Davis of Oklahoma City and took his young bride to Elk City where they lived most of the time. Bert, as he was familiarly called, was a well known broom corn buyer of Elk City. For the past ten years he made this his home during the broom corn season, consequently he made a large number of acquaintances, and was known as a man of honorable dealings and business qualities. They were called to Oklahoma City less than two weeks ago by the death of her father. On account of her taking the "flu" she was unable to attend the funeral of her father or even see him, and the devoted husband was so kind and attentive in her sorrow. In just two days his condition indicated symptoms of the "flu" and when they were both so sick, it was for his wife he expressed so much anxiety. Christmas eve he was taken to the hospital where he received every care human aid could give, but he passed on Saturday at four P.M. The funeral services were held Monday at 3:30 P.M. and burial was in the Fairlawn Cemetery at Oklahoma City. E. J. Cutler and L. A. Ballard of Elk City, with other broom corn men of Oklahoma City, whom he knew, acted as pall bearers. --------------------------------------------------------- Return to Beckham County Archives: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/beckham/beckham.htm
