(29 Nov 1917, Beckham County Democrat-Erick, Erick Beckham Co, OK): Obituary. Dr. Joseph F. Anthony was born Feb. 4th 1837 at New Roe, Allen Co, Ky. Died Nov. 19, 1917 at the home of his daughter Mrs. J. G. Mayfield of Salton, Okla., at the age of 80 yrs and 9 mos. He ate a hearty breakfast and was preparing to start to Erick to visit his son and family. He walked out into the yard and failing to return, Mrs. Mayfield went out to see about him, finding him dead, seemingly having expired without pain. He was a consistent member of the Methodist church for more than fifty years. He started in this life hopeful and ambitious and was a financial success, enjoying a large and extensive practice of medicine for more than forty years. He never missed an opportunity to help others; if he ever had an enemy it is unknown and we believe he has gone to receive the reward of a well spent life. He was married Nov. 29, 1865 to Henrietta Alexendira (sic) Sarver in Sumner Co, Tenn. Had he lived ten days longer, they would have had 52 years of happy peaceful married life. He leaves behind him three sons, John of Erick, Alfred of Portland Tenn., and Joseph Jr. Mangum and three daughters, Mrs. Fannie Mayfield of Salton, Mrs. Nannie Martin of Vinson, and Mrs. Mary Olive of Huston (sic) Texas, besides 22 grand children. His friend (sic) were leigon (sic). He was laid to rest at Vinson Wednesday.
