All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************ BAILEY, BENNETT B. (Sept 1929, Erick Democrat, Erick, Beckham Co, OK): Bennett B. Bailey was born in Madison county, Arkansas near Hunsville, August 19, 1842. He passed from this life September 12, 1929, at his home in Claremore, Oklahoma, where he was living at that time. He was 87 years, 24 days old at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Roda Johnson, February 6, 1860. To this union twelve children were born. Two preceded him to the great beyond. His companion Mrs. Bailey was taken from this life February 26, 1929. He came to Oklahoma in the year 1920, settling in Claremore where he made his home until the time of his death. The serious long illness of his companion caused him to come to his daughter, Mrs. Mary Spencer of Mayfield. Here he lived until the passing of his wife, then he returned back to his home where he with his son lived until the time of his death. He had been blind for the past 10 years, but his mind was active. He had read his Bible in earlier days and never forgot those comforting words. He became a christian the age of 25 years, living true to the Lord 62 years. The remains were shipped from Claremore to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Spencer of Mayfield. Rev. Freeman conducted the funeral from the church of Christ in Sweetwater, August (sic) 15, 1929. Prof. Dennis was in charge of the song services. Many beautiful songs were rendered. He was laid to rest by his companion in the Sanders cemetery. The children are: Frank Bailey of Haskell, Oklahoma, John Bailey of Dequen (sic), Arkansas, T. P. Bailey of Elcentral, California, Calvin Bailey of Denver, Colorado, William Bailey of Yuma, Arizona, George Bailey of Shamrock, Texas, Carl Bailey of Claremore, Oklahoma, Lucy Peters of Oakland, California, Mrs. Nora Terry of Bard, New Mexico, and Mrs. Mary Spencer of Mayfield. Fatheree of Erick was in charge.
